Dialogue, collaboration, exchange of experience, cooperation, common practices across the banking system…

These are some of the elements which define the activity of the Romanian  Banking Association. Established in the year 1991 following the initiative of 14 commercial banks, currently the Association has 42 members - credit institutions with privately-owned capital or state capital and branches of some foreign banks.

The Romanian Banking Association (RBA) is a legal Romanian entity, set up as a non-profit professional body and operating in conformity with its legal statute and the relevant Romanian laws in force, complying with the provisions of law regarding the business of banking.

RBA has as main targets to represent and defend its members’ interests, to promote the principles of banking policy in domains of general interest for its members, to promote cooperation among banks and with national and international institutions and banking associations from other countries, to train experts in the banking system, to communicate with the mass media.

The Association is the place where experts gather in specialised commissions to find common  solutions to the problems confronting different segments of activity, to enforce the National Bank of Romania’s (NBR) norms and working regulations together with international rules and practices, in order to define a uniform practice as regards providing banking services and products and  relationships with regulators and state bodies.

Due to the efforts of these experts, the activity of the Association materializes in the drawing up of proposals meant to improve the legal framework in the banking system and to have permanent dialogue and good cooperation with institutions such as the National Bank of Romania, the Commissions for Budget, Finance, Banks of the two Chambers of Parliament, the Ministry for Public Finance and other national and international institutions and bodies. Moreover, the RBA agenda includes training programmes in fields of interest for the experts of the banking system, along with participation to national and international seminars and conferences or deployment of common projects across the whole banking system.
